Government Relations

MACAC's Government Relations Committee monitors legislative activity related to college admission issues at both the national and state levels. MACAC encourages its members to take action on federal and state issues impacting college bound students and the professionals that serve them right from your computer! As hearings are held and floor action occurs, members of the committee and other volunteers may be asked to contact legislators to offer information or testimony and to encourage support or opposition to the proposed legislation. We encourage members to alert us when you hear of discussion taking place at the state level that relates to our profession.

Legislative Action Center

Use NACAC's Legislative Action Center to contact your members of Congress on NACAC member priority issues, or write your own message on any topic. Also use the Action Center to read about recent state and federal legislation, find contact information for your lawmakers, and much more! Also, track relevant state and federal legislation, find links to state and federal agencies and elected officials, and write to your state and federal members of Congress any time, on any issue.

State Issues

On the state level, the Government Relations Committee has decided to focus its attention on the following:

  1. College Counseling Curriculum in graduate level counseling programs
  2. State funding for economically disadvantaged students
  3. Reducing the student to counselor ratio
  4. Equalized funding per pupil

Over the next year, the committee will focus its attention on creating awareness among the membership as well as creating a state advocacy plan for MACAC.
