A) Government Relations Committee
MACAC's Government Relations Committee monitors legislative activity related to college admission issues at both the national and state levels. MACAC encourages its members to take action on federal and state issues impacting college bound students and the professionals who serve them. As hearings are held and floor action occurs, members of the committee and other volunteers may be asked to contact legislators to offer information or testimony and to encourage support or opposition to the proposed legislation. We encourage members to alert us when they hear of discussion taking place at the state level that relates to our profession. B) Legislative Action CenterWe encourage our members to utilize NACAC's Legislative Action Center (LAC) to contact their legislators on NACAC priority issues, The LAC is a great resource to track state and federal legislation, and find contact information for your lawmakers and links to state and federal agencies, as well as other elected officials.
Follow this link for the NACAC Legislative Action Center. For the most up to date information on current legislation, please visit NACAC's Government Relations web site at http://www.nacacnet.org/LegislativeAction/GovRelIntel/Pages/default.aspx C) State IssuesOn the state level, the Government Relations Committee has decided to focus its attention on the following: - Awareness of, and advocacy for, the policy goals of NACAC
- College counseling curriculum at the graduate level
- State funding for economically disadvantaged students
- Reducing the student to counselor ratio
